Friend Like Me: Robin Williams July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014

Hello everyone

I am sure you heard the news Monday night about the unfortunate death of actor Robin Williams.  Looking at the overwhelming pour of social media posts that evening was astounding to view. People taking quotes from his movies or people ditching reality TV for a night to watch one of his movies. I remembered his performance in Aladdin fondly since I saw Aladdin opening day with my sister. That was 22 years ago.... I was laughing so much through that movie since Genie stole the show!  I found a clip of one of my favorite scenes featuring Genie:

It was confirmed today that Mr. Williams committed suicide, his rep mentioned in the official statement that he was battling depression lately.  Even with all the fame, respect, and admiration of many the star battled his inner demons. It's terrible... I think a lot of people can relate to that, depression is something you cannot "snap out of".   If you or someone you know is battling depression or if you even suspect it, reach out to him or her, speak to their family members. They need help before they do something to hurt themselves or others.

30,000 people commit suicide in the United States each year. 750,000 people attempt suicide. It's time to raise awareness, increase empathy and kindness.  If you are a loved one needs help, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

If you want to contribute to the charities that were dear to Mr. Williams, please visit the following sites: St. Jude's Research HospitalChallenged AthletesUSO, the Mohammed Ali Parkinson Center, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco.

Thank you Mr. Williams for all the laugher you have given us may you rest in peace.
