Marvel's Agent Carter-Must See TV

Hello my fellow nerds

Are you as excited for the premiere of Marvel's Agent Carter as I am!?  The new show premiering tonight can change the game for Marvel, Women, and TV in general.  Yes there are great female role models on TV: Daenerys Targaryen, Olivia Pope (depending on which season of Scandal), and Olivia Benson, but the more the merrier!  The teasers for Marvel's Agent Carter appeal to the female audience whether or not they are fans of the Captain America comic or not.  A good story and a great female lead is all you need to grab my attention nowadays.

With the over-saturation of female reality stars that are half naked wearing Christian Louboutin shoes the young female audience doesn’t really have great female role models. The few I mention were under 5, where there are dozens of female reality TV stars.  I have high hopes for Marvel's Agent Carter as I am a fan of Peggy Carter in the Marvel Universe films.   I predict another win for Marvel bringing more female fans as they created graphic novels for Revenge, developed female Thor, and created an Instagram devoted to fangirls style.   Another great highlight, Hayley Atwell is the first woman to headline a Marvel film or TV series solo. If that isn’t progress for chicks, I don’t know what is!

Check out the sneak peak of Marvel's Agent Carter below, it premieres tonight at 8pm on  ABC!

Marvel Superheroes Unite Against Bullying

Hey everyone!

How great are these covers by Marvel comics? In coordination with national anti-bullying group STOMP Out Bullying, Marvel Comics is publishing special variant covers spotlighting the issue.

It makes sense think about the origins of Marvel Superheroes:  Peter Parker was a bookish teenager whose classmates mocked him as "puny Parker." Captain America was too scrawny to pass an Army physical until he took a special serum. Even the ultra-powerful Hulk was once an abused child.

"Many comic book superheroes, and particularly those in the Marvel universe, were victims of bullying, felt isolated, and were ridiculed and shunned as kids and teens," STOMP Out Bullying president Ross Ellis. As a victim of bullying as a child, seeing Marvel partner up with STOMP Out Bullying makes me smile!  Ellis said the covers are designed to raise awareness that October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and to "convey the message that no matter who you are, you can be a superhero in your own right by standing up and taking action by joining the fight to eradicate the bullying and cyber-bullying epidemic."

One cover, specifically addresses cyber-bullying. It features Medusa, queen of a superhuman race called the Inhumans, who has an unusual superpower: prehensile hair.

The comic books ,will be on  on-sale in October:

  • Rocket Raccoon #4

  • Guardians of the Galaxy #20

  • Avengers #36

  • Inhuman #7

  • Hulk #7

  • Captain America #25

  • Legendary Star-Lord #4

Its A Girl!

When I heard Marvel was going to make a BIG announcement on ABC's The View today, I actually scratched my head why? Until.... I heard the big news:

Marvel is making the beloved hammer character Thor a woman! Yes a woman! It made perfect sense that Marvel used ABC's "The View" to make the announcement.

The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription," said Marvel editor Wil Moss in a statement. "The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

To be clear She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR.

Thor will be Marvel’s eighth comic featuring a female in its leading role, which the publisher says “aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for Super Hero comic BOOKS in America: women and girls.”

I think this is a great idea to get more women and girls to read comic books. A practice that was so taboo 10-15 years ago is now becoming mainstream with Comic Book conventions, comic inspired fashions in fashion snows, and the popularity of cosplay!

Rock on new Thor! Iron Man watch your back? With an name like Tony Stark it can easily be changed to Toni Stark, ha!

What are your thoughts about this? Will we miss male Thor?

A Vengeful Read coming from ABC + Marvel

Looks like September isn't just for television premieres anymore!  The creators behind ABC's Revenge and Marvel Comics have teamed up for a prequel of our favorite anti hero Emily Thorne.  Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne will be available digitally and in print on September 3, 2014.

Most die hard Revenge fans know that Emily has samurai savvy. However, the graphic novel takes place halfway in her evolution where she is cocky and hasn't yet honed her fighting abilities.  Marvel wanted to make sure the comic's story was closely tied to the show, so the all-new adventure in the comic is canon and the graphic novel will flesh out an early part of the vengeful history of Emily Thorne (or, Amanda Clarke, as she was known back then) that has never been revealed on TV.   Just as the recently returned David Clarke will be reconnecting and learning more about his daughter in Season 4, readers will be able to fill in the gaps in Emily's origin as her backstory unfolds in a never-before-told action-adventure set in Geneva, Switzerland.

I will be pre ordering this, what a great read to have to balance the NY Fashion week madness!
