Loveday 31: The Intimate Shopping Experience

A few weekends ago, Vickie and I went vintage shopping, not at our usual spots but in Astoria, Queens at Loveday 31 Vintage.

Walking in your greeted with the sweet mix of 90s hip-hop and 70s disco. After the music, the next thing that hits you, are vibrant colors of the shop. Color abounds at Loveday 31 Vintage, and not only on the racks but also on the painted walls. This shop has a 20th century modern feel, sans framed photos of 60s era luminaries.

Ivona Bilicic, the owner of Loveday 31 used to be a buyer for acclaimed NoHo thrift shop: Screaming Mimi’s, so she knows her stuff.  She finds all the pieces herself and doesn’t stock anything newer than about 1990, with the exception of some accessories by local artists.  Everything is in absolutely perfect condition, and the prices can’t be beat. Unlike other stores that claim they are vintage where they are just recycling clothes donated from customers.

Purses and clutches are displayed on shelves. This shelf makes me think of that scene in The September Issue where the camera pedestals up the shelf showing all the purses and shoes. You know, the scene that made you drool?

I came into Loveday, this time aiming to get a few accessories; I did achieve my goal in these rad gold frames.  They kind of remind me of something Michelle Pfeiffer’s character in Scarface would wear.  The frames are a perfect addition to any piece of outerwear (hint on upcoming #ootd post this week!)

This black and white cardigan tho! I am a cardigan fanatic! A skinny jean, sexy tank, cardigan and boots are my weekend uniform. What I love about this cozy cardigan, I can also wear it with a black or grey shift dress for work :)

Vickie rocked a few shades and scored vintage rings. Check out her post on Loveday 31 from a real estate perspective at Gousse Guidebook for Real Estate.

If you are looking to venture out for vintage, I strongly recommend Loveday 31 for an intimate shopping experience.  What better way to treat yourself then to curated vintage?

Loveday 31 is located at 33-06 31st Avenue in Astoria, Queens.

Catbird Fever

Whenver I get off the Bedford Ave L stop, I CANNOT walk pass Catbird. It's one of my favorite boutiques in the city. And that is saying a lot as this gal likes to shop online ;)

Catbird sell's the most unique jewelry (engagement rings too, hint for my future husband out there), beauty, and homegoods. The boutique is now a E-tailer as well for you folks that are not able to head to Williamsburg!

My favorite piece from their store so far is the baby serpent earrings, handmade right in Brooklyn! A rad Christmas gift from momma! I wear them all the time:

By. Brooklyn designer Leo Black, lovely isn't it?!

Since then I started to have a "thing" for snakes :) Really more snake designs from Catbird:

I highly recommend paying a visit to Catbird, try going on a Thursday or Friday if you can! Weekends are slammed :)

To be Adorned

If having a piercing was once an in your face scream, the new vogue is a whisper.

I recently took the “plunge” and got new ear piercings.

In 2016, multiple piercings feel modern, well for me that is the reason why I got them. I wanted a modern update.  A mix between feminine (dainty pearls and studs) and tough (piercing’s are classic bad ass no?).  It fits my style perfectly, as I wear maxi dresses but I would rock it with a leather motorcycle jacket.  Being a publicist and working events I can't have a piercing on my nose, lip etc., it's frankly not my style at this point of my life.  Multiple ear piercings has a sophisticated and ladylike appeal, and totally office appropriate to boot!  It’s all about personal mementos and secret little jewels.

I recently fully healed from my piercings now I am in the hunt to take it a step further… in a subtle way lol. For a long time, multiple piercings was something out of the ordinary, but jewelry design is catching up with refined, simple, high-quality-pieces. Jewelry designers like Love Adorned, Catbird, Blanca Monrós Gómez, and Ginette NY are catering to the delicate aesthetic, with slim hoops and tiny studs or bars in precious gems.  I’m personally thinking rose gold or black diamonds. Check out my board!

What are you guys doing to give yourselves a modern update in time for summer?
